Visa and Immigration Requirement to Sarawak, Malaysia.

You must possess a valid National Passport or International recognised travel document to enter Sarawak, Malaysia. You can also use a Document in Lieu which you can apply from Malaysian Representative Office abroad.

If you need a visa to enter Sarawak, Malaysia you must apply and obtain a visa in advance at the Malaysian Representative Office closed to you. This visa is an endorsement in your passport or other recognised travel documents, indicating that you have applied for permission to enter Sarawak, Malaysia and that the permission has been granted. But this is not a guarantee that you will be allowed to enter the country as the final decision lies with the Immigration Officer at the entry Point.

You can check with the Malaysia Immigration Department if you required a visa to entry Malaysia.

Upon arrival at the gazette entry points, you are required to complete the Arrival/Departure form (Imm.26) and present the duly completed form together with your passport to the Immigration Officer on duty. The officer must ensure that your passport or your travel document is endorsed with the appropriate pass before leaving the Immigration Counter.

You can stay up to 30 days, and you can apply for an extension at the nearest Immigration Office should you required one.  This requirement is applicable to tourist coming to Sarawak. There is different requirement if you intent to work or do business in Sarawak. You can get the required information from the nearest MalaysianRepresentative Office in your country.

Sarawak which is the largest state in the Federation of Malaysia is situated on the north-west coastline of Borneo Island,  separated from the Peninsular Malaysia by the South China Sea,  with Sabah as her neighbour, another state in Malaysia and Kalimantan of Indonesia and the Sultanate of Brunei.

Sarawak enjoyed a warm and sunny tropical climate throughout the year and occasionally experienced thunderstorm and heavy downpour. With the daily temperature ranging from 33 degree C. in the afternoon, to 22 degree C. during the night.

Even though Bahasa Malaysia is the national language, English are also widely use in the commercial transaction. In the local market, local Malay, Iban, Bidayuh, Chinese, Melanau and other ethnic language are being used daily.

Ringgit Malaysia or MYR is the official currency of Malaysia...with note available in RM100, RM50, RM10, RM5 and RM1 while 50cts, 20cts, 10cts and 5cts are available in coins. Other currencies are also acceptable which are easily changed at the local money changer services and also most hotels.

Sarawak’s cultural treasures are also fascinating, reflecting the influence of the many ethnic people living in harmony which each cherishing and conserving their own unique culture. Reflecting the wide mixture of ethnic groups in Sarawak, religions in the state are both tolerant and diverse.  Islam is the Federation religion; however Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and animism also represented and respected.

Sarawak Multi-racial population can be clearly seen through the various dialects spoken and the various festival being celebrated though the year. Even though they are of different races and belief, they are able to live in peace and harmony.

International Travellers to Sarawak have to take a connecting flight from either Kuala Lumpur…Brunei…Singapore or Pontianak in Indonesia. You can also come to Sarawak by land from various border entries point from Kalimantan, Indonesia and the Brunei Sultanate. You can also take a flight from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

There is a number of travelling option to get around Sarawak. You can get to various cities and towns in Sarawak by car, buses or express boat. If you want to travel to the interior of Sarawak, the fast and convenient mode is by air.
