Travel Guide to Sibu Sarawak



Sibu, Sarawak is an inland town which is the administrative centre of Sibu Division. It is also the main tourist gateway for the Central Region of Sarawak and also the largest port and commercial centre in the Rejang Basin.

Travel  to Sibu City.

Getting to Sibu in Sarawak in not a problem as the City is well connected by road…air and river transport. There are regular Express Bus services  from Kuching…Bintulu…Miri and other town in Sarawak to Sibu town. The long distance Express Bus Terminal is located at Jalan Pahlawan. 

Sibu town is also being served by Express boat from Kuching….Sarikei…Kapit and the other riverine towns around the region. These Express boats services could be found at the Express Wharf Terminal near to the Rejang Esplanade. 

Travel Around Sibu Sarawak.

As Sibu town is compact…so sightseeing on foot would be a great experience.  You also visit tourist attractions located outside the town either by the local bus or taxi. There is also Express boats service to other coastal and riverine town around Sibu District.

  • Sibu Town Square. This 32 acres town square is regularly used for concerts and cultural activities. It is also the venue for the annual Borneo Cultural Festival...a week long festival held in July every year features cultural performances of Sarawak ethnic groups.
  • Sibu Gateway...a symbolic gateway to Sibu town...located on Jalan Kampung Nyabor features an illuminated fountains...an open air stage and the Lin's Garden with a two swan statues...guarded by the 12 signs of the Chinese Zodiac.
  • The Civic Centre Heritage Mini-Museum ...located at Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg... is about 20 minutes journey by taxi from the town centre. The Centre which housed a fine collection of antiques...artefacts..cultural exhibits on the various ethnic groups and pictorial history of Sibu Chinese migration is open from 10.30 am till 5.30pm on Tuesday till Sunday...free admission.
  • A winner of 1998 National Landscaping competition...Bukit Aup Jubilee Park is 15 minutes journey from the town...open daily from 8 am till 6 pm. This 24 acre public park is popular place for relaxation...recreational activities and sight seeing. The park is equipped with lookout tower...picnic huts...a canteen...a suspension bridge and also jogging and walking trails. It is the venue for the Jubli Perak Run held in first week of May.

  • The Wong Nai Siong Memorial Garden is located at the site of the earliest Chinese settlement...Sungai Merah...was built to honour the town's principal founder...Reverend Wong Nai Siong. The park is 10 minutes journey from Sibu town. Sungai Merah is also a heritage site linking Sungai Merah Bazaar with Sibu Lake Garden via tree covered jogging and cycling track.
  • Ku Tien Memorial Park...a join effort between Kutien Association of Sibu and Sibu Municipal Council, which was completed in July 2004 was built to honour the contribution of Chinese Kutien Clan community to the development of Sibu...located at Jalan Bukit Lima...Upper Lanang.   • The Ling Clan Swan Garden which was completed in July 2005 is a joint effort between Sarawak Ling Clan Association and SMC is located next to Sibu Gateway at Kampong Nyabor.
  • Beside spending your Sibu sightseeing journey at the above parks...there are also the Heng Hua Garden...Vui Meng Garden...Su Kuok Garden and also the Chiang Chuang Garden.
  • You can also visit the Iban Longhouse at Bawang Assan which took about 40 minutes journey by road or boats.
